What We Do

Friends of the Children of Tanzania was established in 2007 in the UK to provide education, social and medical care and support to orphans, vulnerable and disabled children in the Lake Victoria region of North West Tanzania in East Africa.

We are a small charity, entirely voluntary. 100% of all contributions are directed at the projects in Tanzania.

We have NO OVERHEADS, setting us apart from many similar organisations.

Our aim is to improve the health, education and quality of life of disadvantaged children to help them reach their full potential.

Exsisting Showers

We are delighted that by June 2010, FoCT had acheived it's 2010 target of £10,000 and are therefore able to build two shower and toilet blocks in two adjescent schools for disabled and deaf children. We hope to start building by the end of the year.

How Your Money Helps

£200
enables FoCT to help an amputee to secure a new limb. Many children lose their limbs, or the use of them, due to a combination of factors, including polio, snake bites, road accidents and malnutrition. FoCT also assists the carers of children, usually a parent.

£100
enables us to buy clothes and soap for up to 100 vulnerable children. Skin infection due to lack of soap is a common problem for many children in Tanzania.

£50
enables us to provide a nutritious meal to 100 vulnerable and destitute children. Malnourished children cannot learn properly and cannot behave normally – good nutrition is high on the list of priorities for FoCT and its local partners on the ground.

One of our main areas of focus is to support and expand educational opportunities for disabled children, including improvements to learning facilities. To this end, FoCT financed the construction of a recreation centre/school hall with computer laboratory, in a Primary School in NW Tanzania. Building began in June 2008, and was completed in early 2009. This directly benefits 120 disabled children as well as able bodied local children who attend the school.
